Postgraduate Specialisation in Anaesthesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care

Course partially running (all years except the first)

Specialists in anaesthesia, resuscitation and intensive care must possess (and continue to develop during the course) both fundamental and specific theoretical knowledge, technical abilities and the necessary attitude to work appropriately in a range of clinical contexts according to national and European standards. These situations relate to: general and local anaesthetic for different branches of surgery and different diagnostic and therapeutic non-surgical procedures; emergency medical care within and outside of hospitals and medical care in catastrophes; general and specialised intensive care; analgesic therapy of acute and chronic pain syndromes; hyperbaric treatment; and emergency toxicology.
Such specialists must also develop their ability to communicate clearly and humanely with patients and their family members, including with regard to preoperative informed consent, the removal of organs and tissues for transplants and symptomatic therapy for incurable patients in the final stages of a terminal disease. Additionally, they must be able to interact positively with other specialists and health professionals. Finally, they need to constantly update their knowledge through continuous education in different areas of the field.
