Salvatore Monaco is Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Verona, Verona, Italy, Neurology Residency Program Director, and Director of Neurology B, Department of Neuroscience, at the “Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata”, Verona. He is the former President of the Italian Association of Neuropathology and Clinical Neurobiology and he currently acts as institutional member of the scientific panel “Infectious diseases” of the European Academy of Neurology. 
His major research interests include the identification of molecular mechanisms and biomarkers in neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory disorders. In these fields, he has achieved innovative results, especially in prion diseases, demyelinating conditions, and toxic-metabolic disorders.
