Learning outcomes

The course aims are to describe some epidemiologically relevant clinical pictures with the purposes of developing tan integrated surgical and nursing approach. Patient diseases will be addressed by considering their evolution, the evaluation of the patient and the choice of care interventions based on the patient's evidence, appropriateness and needs.


Types of incision and pathophysiological implications and complications (incisional ernia, dehiscence)
Principles, indications, advantages and disadvantages of open and laparoscopic surgery and Fast Track Surgery-ERAS
Epidemiology, risk factors, prognostic factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostic modalities and main surgical techniques of the following clinical pictures:
Gastro intestinal tract
- Intestinal occlusions
- Localized and generalized peritonitis
- Hiatal hernia
- Gastroduodenal surgical complications
- Hepato-bilio-pancreatic diseases
- Colorectal cancer
- Benign colo-ano-rectal disorders (diverticulitis, fistulas, fissures, hemorrhoids)
- Inguinal hernias
- Breast cancer
- Nodules and neoplasms of the thyroid
