This course aims to develop students’ critical appraisal skills, with a particular emphasis on research articles and guidelines in the nursing literature.

MM: METODOLOGIA DELL'INFERMIERISTICA BASATA SULLE EVIDENZE
------------------------
The following topics will be developed in the course: • Introduction to Evidence Based Practice - Definition and characteristics of Evidence Based Nursing • The 5 steps of the EBN: from the need for information to the formulation of the question, to the search for sources and application to the patient (s) ° To formulate questions born in clinical practice - the types of background and foreground questions. From the question we identify the type of study best suited to give an answer. ° Search electronic books, journals and databases with keywords, Boolean operators and MESH terms ° Clarify the meaning of: objective, hypothesis, dependent variable, independent, intervention, sampling, randomization, outcome, bias, follow-up, to understand the study design. Analyze some studies: RCT - Systematic Review - Guidelines. ° Apply scientific evidence in our contexts following the EBN paradigm (clinical reasoning and taking of decision).

MM: STATISTICA SANITARIA E EPIDEMIOLOGIA CLINICA

1. The measurement in Medicine: measure scales, validity, precision, accuracy 2. Statistical variables and frequency distributions 3. How to describe the distribution of one or more variables (position and measure of variability, contigency tables and correlation) 4. Introduction to probability 5. Generalizing from sample to population: statistic inference principles (confidence intervals, tests) 6. How to evaluate the spread of a disease in human populations (incidence and prevalence) 7. How to evaluate the association between a determinant and a disease (relative risk, attributable risk, odds ratio) 8. Epidemiological study design 9. How to evaluate the validity of a diagnostic instrument

The exam will be integrated with the module of Health Statistics and Clinical Epidemiology. The exams are aimed at: probe the knowledge and mastery of the concepts and theories of reference on which the EBN is based evaluate the understanding of the methods and the interpretation of the results of some types of studies (RCT-Systematic reviews - LG) highlight the ability to argue decisions and apply guideline recommendations to specific care situations. The examination procedures are being defined.

MM: STATISTICA SANITARIA E EPIDEMIOLOGIA CLINICA

The exam consists of a written test and an oral interview. The written part consists of multiple choice tests and exercises; the oral interview will mainly focus on the answers provided in the examination.
