Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the cultural bases necessary to guarantee assistance to the patient with pelvic dysfunction. The pathophysiology of local, general phenomena will then be examined. Through the analysis of the collected data, the student will be guided to understand the relevant information and to interpret it. The student will be guided to understand the assistance needs expressed by the woman and to favor the empowerment, so as to provide personalized assistance centered on the needs of women, in the light of evidence-based medicine, guidelines and WHO recommendations and WHO Unicef. The contents of this course are contained in the "Medical-surgical and specialist sciences" exam module. The course aims to create the basis for a thorough understanding of pelvic dysfunctions and their subsequent treatment.


Anatomy and physiology of the pelvic floor.
Urogynecological history and objective examination.
Main pathologies:
- prolapse
- urinary incontinence
- vaginism
- vulvodynia
- dyspareunia in youth and in menopause
- pregnancy and post partum
- Pelvic chronic pain syndrome
All will be analyzed signs, symptoms, causes, assessment methods and necessary rehabilitative treatment

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam includes an oral interview, aimed at assessing: breadth and depth of acquired knowledge, ability to link knowledge, analytical and argumentative skills, ability to apply theoretical knowledge in small situations of care / proposed clinical cases, properties of language . The score obtained will be calculated through the weighted average of the other lessons that make up the form.
