Module: ANTROPOLOGIA CULTURALE

As an introduction to anthropological knowledge several topics, from the most classic (such as the concept of culture and the relationship between the body and cosmology) to those most currently under debate (like the incorporation and suffering linked to structural violence, especially in multi-cultural societies and in situations of enforced globalisation) will be selected and discussed in detail. In line with the study course, matters concerning anthropology of the body (such as those regarding the “techniques” connected to the cultural variables that influence body movements) and medical anthropology will be proposed.
In this field, besides studying the classic concepts of disease, illness and sickness, the subject of the medical system as a cultural system will be tackled while the role of pain (particularly chronic pain) in the construction of the individual and/or community world will be analysed.
