Curriculum

Prof Fumagalli is director of the lab of Pharmacology where new regenerative medicine approaches to spinal cord injury are studied. He has a strong scientific background in cellular pharmacology applied to the study of ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors. He is also the director of the Research Center of Child Motor Development that studies determinants of child (4-7 y) motor and cognitive development in collaboration with several European and American groups. The Center organizes local and national courses for teachers on motor development. He has been appointed as Dean of Faculty and Provost for research and international affairs, was awarded grants and important prizes, has published several high impact papers on top scientific journals.

Neuropharmacology Neural Stem Cell pharmacology: characterization of modulatory event for therapeutic regeneration of CNS Pharmacology & Pharmacy
Regenerative neuropharmacology Pharmacological, functional, cellular and molecular characterization of a population of neural stem cells that we have discovered to be present in leptomeninges and involved in postnatal neurogenesis and/or in regenerative processes associated to pathological conditions. The study is focused on reaction, involvement and reparative potential of meningeal stem cells following traumatic lesions of the spinal cord. The aim is to identify drugs/nutrients/substances that modulate/potentiate endogenous reparative reaction that follows to the trauma. In addition we are setting innovative approaches of regenerative medicine applied to spinal cord injury by taking advantage of the neural stem cells extracted from meninges of adult subjects (including humans).
