Synapse competition and plasticity Synaptic contacts are more abundant in the developing animal than in the adult. Their reduction is a process known as "synapse competition". In the adult animal, although their overall number is stable, the synapses can modify their efficacy in many ways, a property called "synapse plasticity". Both synapse competition and synapse plasticity are processes regulated by the electrical activity of the nervous system. Neurosciences - Neurosciences
