Curriculum

Riccardo C. Bonadonna si è laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia nel 1981 presso l'Università degli Studi di Genova. 

E' specialista in Endocrinologia e Malattie del Metabolismo, in Geriatria e Gerontologia, e in Medicina Nucleare.

Ha trascorso circa 3 anni (1985-1988) di perfezionamento presso la Yale University anEw Haven, CT, USA, e circa 2 anni presso la University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX, USA. Ha trascorso altri brevi periodi di perfezionamento presso la University of Indiana School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, USA (1993), e presso la University of Helsinki School of Medicine, Helsinki, Finlandia (1993).

I temi principali, ma non unici, della sua attività scientifica sono la fisiopatologia e la genetica del diabete di tipo 2 e le terapie avanzate del diabete mellito.

Ha pubblicato oltre 200 articoli scientifici in riviste peer-reviewed in lingua inglese.

Dal 2024 è Presidente Eletto della Società Italiana di Diabetologia.

Epidemiology, Pathophysiology and Genetics of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disorders; General Endocrinology The research interests and expertise of dr. M. Dauriz involve four main areas: (1) genetic epidemiology of diabetes and related cardiovascular disorders;(1) epidemiology and pathophysiology of the glucose-insulin system, with particular emphasis on the quantitative estimate of beta-cell function and insulin sensitivity (in vivo and in silico modeling); (3) technology applied to patient care (CSII, Continouos Subcutaneous Insulin Delivery Systems; CGM, Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems), (4) multi-disciplinary integrated approaches to the clinical care of patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disorders (heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, stroke). The clinical interests of dr. Dauriz are mainly devoted to the clinical care of people affected by diabetes and endocrine disorders and to patients admitted to the hospital in a general internal medicine setting. Endocrinology and Diabetes Research is focused on different areas of endocrinology (in particular hyperandrogenism, thyroid diseases and adrenal diseases) and diabetes (in particular type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes). The main current research project is the "Verona PCOS Pathophysiology and Phenotype (Verona 3P) Study", which aims at better understanding the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome, and is characterized by accurate phenotyping of affected women as regards the hallmarks of this condition. In particular, gold standard methods are used in order to assess insulin resistance, androgens and body composition. Another area of current research focuses on the effects of physical activity in diabetes, as well as in other endocrine and metabolic diseases. Endocrinology & Metabolism
