The course will present the core concepts of sociolinguistics and introduce the students to the specific terminology of the discipline. During the course, the relationship between language and social factors will be examined through the analysis of brief excerpts.
Specifically, the course will deal with the following topics:
• Definition of sociolinguistics
• The relationship between language and society
• Language and dialects
• The concept of sociolinguistic variation
• Analysis of conversational excerpts
