Learning outcomes

The course aims at providing students with a general understanding of the events underlying the functioning of major organs and systems of the human body


Introduction to physiology: Mention on the foundation of physiology – The Levels of Organization – Homeostasis – Body Composition

Cellular dynamics: Cellular membrane and cellular communication (ion channels; membrane potential; action potential genesis and its propagation; neural synapse and neuromuscular junction)

The Muscular System: Skeletal and smooth muscle - Mechanics of body movement

Cardiovascular system: The heart and its functions – Circulation – Blood

Respiratory system: Pulmonary function and mechanics – Pulmonary ventilation

Urinary system: Renal function – Acid-base regulation

Digestive system: Secretory functions – Absorption on the gastrointestinal tract

Nervous system: Central and peripheral nervous system – Autonomic nervous system

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam is written and includes the use of multiple choice questions (5 replies to each question of which only one is correct). The questions are 100

For each correct question it is assigned a point and there are no penalties for wrong answer.
