The course aims to provide a summary idea of what progress means in general surgery
the most clear progress corresponds to technical innovation supported by technological innovation; other forms of innovation are however crucial to define progress: the introduction of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs and their application in clinical practice certainly represents an advancement, as are complex organizational models for the management of a hybrid pathology, such as emergency pathology in pregnant women. The real revolution, however, is biology-driven surgery.
