Course organization
This course is focused on the students' learning of the most relevant areas of interest in orthopedics and traumatology for fisiotherapists. These topics will be discussed with our students using a highly interactive approach and aiming at their readiness and skillness when they'll be initially involved in working practice with real patients. Also, their development of problem solving capabilities about real cases which will be shown them. Moreover, their progressive ability to see and manage any possible different links existing among various pathologies.
All of these targets will have to be reached in their main areas of interest, with regard to the amount of hours at disposal, including modern imaging, hand and foot pathology, fractures, dislocations, strains, knee and hip joint prostheses, shoulder pathology, pediatric and tumoral pathologies. Furthermore, a continuous effort will be made in constantly stressing the importance of thier normal human anatomy knowlwdges in order to better understand pathology.
An introduction into musculoskeletal pathology topics.
The main role of normal human anatomy knowledge.
The fisiotherapist vs. the orthopedic patient.
The importance of anamnestic records; the physical exam of the patient.
The modern imaging in orthopedics and traumatology.
The Shoulder diseases.
The various types of swelling of the joints.
The hand pathology: Dupuytren disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain syndrome, trigger finger.
The classifications and problems related to wounds
The tendon lesions.
The fractures. Introduction, classification, healing phases. Principles of treatment. The two steps: reduction and synthesis.
The dislocations.
the strains.
The pediatric orthopedic pathology.
The diseases of the knee.
The state of the art in joint prosthetic replacement. The hip and knee prostheses.
The painful diseases of the spine.
The tumoral and pseudotumoral lesions of bone and soft tissues.

THE FINAL EXAM WILL CONSIST OF THREE WRITTEN TOPICS FOCUSED ON THE TEACHING PLAN. AN ORAL TEST MAY ALSO BE CONSIDERED IN SELECTED CASES.
