Learning Outcomes ( knowledge and skills acquired )
The course aims at providing the student with the knowledege relative to midwifery care during the antenatal period, at delivery and in the post-natal period, under variable risk conditions, mainly directed toward the woman as an in-patient or during a consultation as an out-patient. For the latter, special attention is given to midwifery care during prenatal diagnosis
Syllabus
Surveillance of the feto-maternal well-being: the role of the midwife in assisting the woman during the steps of prenatal diagnosis, which include the nuchal translucency and the combined test, invasive procedures such as villocentesis, amniocentesis, cord sampling.
Assessment of blood test and values in different low and high risk situations such as first trimester nausea and vomiting, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia.
Ultrasound scanning and fetal heart monioring from the midwife perspective, its' indication and interpretation.
Midwifery care in case of miscarriage, fetal death, stillbirth and the role of the midwife in supporting the woman grieving for her baby.
