OBJECTIVES
The course will provide students with the basic concepts to to approach experimental research in the field of rehabilitation medicine.

KNOWLEDGE:
1. To outline the characteristics of "profit" and "non-profit" research in the field of rehabilitation medicine.
2. Know the main research calls for rehabilitation medicine.
3. Define the main components of a research project in the field of rehabilitation medicine.
4. Distinguish the different items that make up the budget of a research project in the field of rehabilitation medicine
5. Establish the main criteria for the competitive assessment of research projects in the field of rehabilitation medicine

6. Choose the most appropriate area for the presentation of a research project
7. Write a "profit" and "no profit" research protocol to be presented to an Ethics Committee

INFERENTIAL STATISTICS IN CLINICAL RESEARCH
- Random variables
- Gauss distributions, Student's T and chi-squares
- Elements of sampling theory
- Sample distribution of an estimator
- Confidence interval of an average and a proportion
- The logic of the statistical test: null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis, errors of the 1st and 2nd type, power of a statistical test, p-value
- Student's Z, T and chi-square tests

MANUAL THERAPY IN MUSCULOSKELETIC DISORDERS
- Manual therapy: definition, history, future prospects, clinical reasoning.
- Joint techniques: joint dysfunctions, therapeutic solutions, evaluation parameters, treatment parameters.
- Myofascial techniques: myofascial dysfunctions, therapeutic solutions, evaluation parameters, treatment parameters.
- Neural techniques: neural dysfunctions, therapeutic solutions, evaluation parameters.
- Therapeutic exercise
- Laboratory: joint, myofascial, neural techniques, therapeutic exercise.

Assessment methods and criteria

EXAMINATION FEATURES
The objective of the exam is to verify the level of achievement of the previously indicated training objectives.
The exam may consist of an oral interview or written test with the possibility of questions with multiple choices or discussion about the discussed in class. Practical tests may also be performed.
