Learning outcomes

The teaching aims to analyze some physiopathologic , clinical and helpful aspects related to priority health problems, selected for their epidemiological and exemplarity importance, in a clinical instability’s situation and in a chronic disease/disability. It considers the changes due to people’s ageing and to the chronic-degenerative disease’s problems increasing. The approach focuses on management and identification of existing and possible problems’, considering various helpful contests and self-care abilities’ promotion and development.


Overview of functional anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Outlines of neurological semeiotics.
Alterations of the state of consciousness (stupor, sopor, coma): semeiotics, causes and monitoring.
Physiopathology, clinic and treatment of the main neurological diseases due to disability:
- Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: pathophysiology, clinic, diagnostic hints. Acute stroke treatment: thrombolysis.
- Parkinson's disease: pathophysiology, clinic, outline of differential diagnostics. Motor fluctuations and long-term treatment syndrome.
- Multiple sclerosis
- Epilepsy

Assessment methods and criteria

Written exam integrated with the modules of Rehabilitation Medicine, Geriatrics and Clinical Nursing of Chronicity. The test includes N. 10 questions. Of these 2-3 open questions that provide a short open answer, and closed questions with multiple choice answers
