The main objective of the course is to teach medical students the fundamental principles of pathophysiology of simple and complex congenital cardiovascular lesions. The format will be interactive, with limited emphasis on background anatomical, clinical and surgical notions, but extensive involvement of students in stepwise reasoning to understand the circulatory consequences of structural heart disease
The program of the course includes lectures on all types of congenital heart lesions, simple and complex, by using a pathophysiological approach. Particular emphasis will be placed in specific aspects of intraoperative management of extracorporeal circulation and principles of surgical therapy.
