The course aims to provide basic knowledge on the most common pathologies affecting the oral cavity, with particular focus on microbial pathologies and the behavior that have to be observed in order to avoid them.
The student will have to master the basic knowledge of main oral pathologies, especially plaque-related pathologies, and the strategies concerning their prevention

General epidemiology and prevention strategies (primary, secondary and tertiary prevention)
Oral health enhancement
Caries prevention: epidemiology, etiology, diet and caries, epidemiological index, prevention techniques (toothbrush, toothpaste, brushing techniques, plaque control, fillings, fluoride profilaxis), radiation-related caries
Periodontal disease prevention: epidemiology, etiology, clinical classification, periodontal index, prevention techniques (scaling, mouthrinse)
Oral cancer prevention: epidemiology, clinical signs and stadiation, risk factors, precancerous lesions
Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws: epdiemiology, etiology, risk factors, prevention
