The course aims to make students understand the role of genetic testing in the clinical course of the patient. The course also aims to provide students who have no medical training the basic knowledge on the clinical aspects concerning the genetic basis of diseases. The course aims to provide an updated view of molecular biology techniques that are used in a clinical setting.

DNA analysis by restriction and modification enzymes, chain polymerization, hybridization with molecular probes; use of genotheques and cDNAteche. • Determination of nucleic acid sequences, automatic sequencing; interpretation of sequence data. Biomedical applications of sequence analysis. • Use of databases and analysis systems for homology: how to navigate the computer network for access to sites for updating and analyzing gene sequences. • Gene cloning strategies and gene expression analysis. • Applications in the biomedical field of recombinant DNA technologies. • Techniques applied to genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis.
