Learning outcomes

The main aim of the course is to provide an articulated and analytical frame of reference of the main topics about the study and intervention of group psychology in work contexts. The specific objectives of the course are to deepen psychosocial phenomena that regulate the life of small and large groups, according to a perspective that goes beyond the group and that deal also with individuals. With this aim it will be discussed the main aspects of internal group dynamics, of status and hierarchical relationships, the differentiation of roles, the building of group rules, the leadership, as well as questions about individuals, like the entry and exit processes from a group. Communication processes within the group will also be presented.


The course will define groups in the viewpoint of general and social psychology and the main classifications of groups. It will be discussed the topic of belonging to groups and the side effects on both the personal and the social identity of individuals. The socialisation process between individuals and group will be analysed.

-Theories about the development of groups and analysis of the structure of a group
-Status, hierarchies and differentiation of roles
-Rules, norms and productivity of a group
-Competition and cooperation in groups
-In-groups and out-groups
-Group cohesion
-Communication process in gropus

Assessment methods and criteria

In the dedicated web page lessons slides will be available to students. The exam consists in a written multiple choice test.
