Overview

Specialists in Healthcare Statistics and Biometry need to have acquired technical, scientific and professional skills in the field of epidemiologicical methodology and statistics applied to health problems. Specific skill areas include being able to assess treatment efficacy through controlled studies in clinical settings and conducting analyses to assess the practical effectiveness of health interventions or strategies to protect collective healthcare. These include assessing the quality of life for patients with chronic conditions, producing systematic reviews and meta-analyses, conducting studies weighing up different alternatives in analysing clinical decisions, conducting working groups for drafting or validating guidelines, educational activities related to evidence-based medicine, monitoring and quality control of services, screening programs, analysing client satisfaction, evaluating the appropriateness of services provided, evaluating diagnostic tests and prognostic factors, pharmacological and epidemiological surveillance activities and making impact assessments and predictions in healthcare planning, carrying out studies in cost-effectiveness, risk-benefits, and cost-utility.
