Specialist in Internal Medicine and PhD in Experimental Hematology. Director of the Complex Clinical Unit of Emergency Medicine at the Integrated University Hospital of Verona (AOUI-VR). From October 1, 2024, Director of the Department of Medicine of the University of Verona. Clinical and translational research activities cover various topics within the wide field of Internal Medicine, including Rare Diseases, Dyslipidemias, and Cardiovascular Genomics, Clonal Hematopoiesis, focusing, however, primarily on Anemias and Iron Metabolism Disorders. Formerly National Secretary of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI), has also served as member of the Scientific Committee for Iron and Heme of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), of the Scientific Program Committee of the European Hematology Association (EHA, and of the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Iron in Biology and Medicine (BIOIRON). Since May 2025, is the President-elect of the BIOIRON Society. Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) for the implementation of Patient Blood Management (PBM) programs and treatment of Anemia in Pregnancy in developing countries. Author of chapters on Iron Metabolism disorders for UpToDateÒ and Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine (22nd Edition, released on June 2025). Included in the lists of top international researchers (https://research.com/scientists-rankings/medicine/it?page=8). Head of the Center for Iron Diseases at AOUI-Verona, and local coordinator of the EuroBloodNet Centre of Excellence for Rare Hematological Diseases at AOUI-VR.
