Learning outcomes

It is intended to teach students the meaning of "rehabilitation" and "rehabilitation team" through the concepts and applications of this discipline in some medical fields. The following themes will be highlighted: the interprofessional work in the rehabilitation, the usefulness of medical and nursing evidence in the management of patients.

Syllabus

The rehabilitation team, the professional figures who are present in the rehabilitation team (2 hours).
Definition and differences between: impairment, disability and handicap.
Concept of autonomy and functional recovery (0.5 hours).
Development and organization of rehabilitation facilities in South Tyrol (0.5 hours).
Professionals in the rehabilitation group in relation to the patient with spinal cord damage: the ergotherapist and the nurse (1 hour).
The example of lymphatic drainage as a rehabilitation therapy (0.5 hour).
A nod to neuropsychological deficits in patients with traumatic brain injury. Psychological dynamics and reaction in patient families (0.5 hours)

The provision of aids, prosthesis and orthosis to the disabled patient. The therapeutic concept of the appropriate use of a custom made wheelchair. The posture in a wheelchair. (0.5 hour).
The role of rehabilitation in the relationship between the healthcare environment and the social environment: home visits, the active role of the patient's family and the reintegration of the latter into the family context. What type of rehabilitation can be exercised in protected structures: projects and realities in South Tyrolean society (0.5 hours)
Measurement and documentation in rehabilitation and physical medicine (0.5 hours).
Functional Evaluations: Functional Independence Measure, Barthel Index. Neurological evaluations: ASIA scale. Physical evaluations: stage of motor rcovery, Tinetti test (1.0 hours).
Rehabilitation of the neurological bladder (0.5 hours)
The basic concepts of the most used rehabilitation methods: Kabat, Bobath, Perfetti, proprojective. Their possible application during nursing: the poses of the hemiplegic patient according to Bobath. The concept of neuroradiology (2 hours).
The various phases of rehabilitation: early, post-acute, maintenance and home care (0.5 hour).
The role of the nurse in a rehabilitation service and in a rehabilitation department, relationship with other professional rehabilitation team figures (0.5 hours).
Work in a rehabilitation service: day-hospital and gym therapies. The patient with surgical-orthopedic outcomes (hip and knee endoprosthesis) (1.0 hour).
