Learning outcomes

To acquire knowledge and understanding on health and safety prevention and health promotion and management in workplaces.
To acquire, through field examples, knowledge and understanding about principles of occupational health, risk assessment, health surveillance, fitness for work, health education, legislation, with reference to different risk factors and a focus on ergonomics, organization and psychosocial factors, injuries as well as on vulnerable workers (such as immigrants, ageing workers), within a multidisciplinary framework.
The student will acquire the awareness that in the professional activities of prevention technicians in the workplaces, there is necessity and opportunity to cooperate with the other occupational health and safety professionals at the workplaces, within programs of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, as well as to deal with specific risk factors and the health and safety of the most vulnerable workers.

2) Occupational hazards and risks. Ergonomics. Psychosocial and organizational risk factors.
3) Work-related diseases.
4) Occupational injuries.
5) Risk assessment. Health surveillance. Fitness for work.
6) Immigration and work.
7) Ageing and work.
9) The cooperation between the occupational physician and prevention and protection services.

TEACHING METHODS
The course will be conducted by means of lectures, with constant pursue of students’ involvement in concept elaboration, with ample time for discussion and interaction. Lectures will include practical examples from the field.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination is an oral assessment.
