Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the basic concepts with respect to:
KNOWLEDGE:
- know the problems of functional assessment and planning of rehabilitative intervention in the amputee patient
- know the principles of use of orthoses for the orthopedic and neurological patient (for the upper limb, for the lower limb and for the spine)
SKILLS:
- define the rehabilitation program of the amputee patient, respecting the constraints and resources available
- identify the type of intervention and prosthesis most suitable for the amputee (personalization of the approach to the patient)
- identify and explain how to use an orthosis for specific categories of rehabilitation problems

Syllabus

Program in summary form:
• Amputations: definitions, etiology, and amputation levels
• Types of prostheses for the lower and upper limb.
• Assessment and rehabilitation of amputee patients.
• The phantom limb.
• General information on Orthosis: rest and correction; static and dynamic functional.
• Employee of prostheses and orthoses in the tariff nomenclature; prescription, approval, delivery
The teaching method mainly used will be that of the frontal lesson. We will also make use of video tutorials in order to make clearer the rehabilitative path of a type of patient infrequent in the services of internships for students.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination: we will evaluate the level of theoretical knowledge and the ability of the student to apply it in order to formulate a rehabilitation process for specific clinical cases
