Learning outcomes

The course aims to promote evidence-based surgical techniques in emergency in obstetrics and gynecology. The course includes simple “practical algorithms”, quick reference and scientific basis for obstetric intrapartum and gynecologic emergencies. During lectures surgical films are presented to discuss technical, clinical and audit aspects in surgical emergencies to make obstetric and gynecologic care safer for women and their babies.

Syllabus

The course performs an analysis of indication of surgery in emergencies. Through films the best evidence-based surgical techniques for Cesarean section, Uterine rupture, Ectopic Pregnancy and Miscarriage, Postpartum Hemorrage, Acute Uterine Inversion, Major Trauma Including Road Traffic Accidents are presented.

Assessment methods and criteria

1.Written and oral test about symptoms, diagnosis, therapy and treatment of obstetric and gynecologic surgical emergencies.
2. Oral test about the knowledge of surgical techniques discussed in the course (surgical films) or observed during clinical practice.
