Learning outcomes

The course objectives are the learning of the physiological and physiopathological bases of nociception with particular reference to treatment with analgesic drugs and other therapeutic devices (epidural analgesia, Patient Controlled Analgesia) and to the new guidelines for the treatment of breackthrough pain. In addition, will be addressed issues related to the various anesthetic techniques (general and loco-regional anesthesia , central and perinervous blocks), the evaluation of anesthetic risk (ASA classification), the anesthesia phases (induction, maintenance, awakening), the specific drugs for general and peripheral anesthesia (hypnotics, muscle relaxants, analgesics, local anesthetics), recovery from anesthesia, monitoring and discharge criteria.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written examination. Test of 26 questions, including 22 multiple choice (4 possible answers for each question, only one valid, 1 point if correct, 0 points if wrong or not answered) and 4 open questions (from 0 to 2 points depending the correctness of the response).
