The course aims to make students understand the role of genetic testing in the clinical course of the patient. The course also aims to provide students who have no medical training the basic knowledge on the clinical aspects concerning the genetic basis of diseases. The course aims to provide an updated view of molecular biology techniques that are used in a clinical setting.

The training objective is to provide adequate knowledge of the main diseases related to alterations of genes and theoretical principles of the techniques of cytogenetics and molecular genetics. The course aims to make students understand the basic stages of the birth of modern biotechnologies and the current applications of recombinant biotechnology in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. We will discuss issues of a scientific, ethical and biological nature. The course also aims to provide an updated view of recombinant techniques including techniques for reproductive and therapeutic cloning, technic for the reproduction of recombinant drugs.
